As Blackpink is about to release its 2nd full-length album, it is expected that it will gain more momentum by breaking another record.

YG Entertainment announced on the 5th, “The number of subscribers to Blackpink’s YouTube channel exceeded 80 million at 4:38 am on the same day. “It has been about 6 years and 3 months since the channel was opened, and it is the first and highest number among all artists in the world to have been recorded,” he said.

Before and after the release date of the music video for their 2nd pre-released song, “Pink Venom,” their YouTube subscribers increased to nearly 3 million at once. It is a point where you can see the extraordinary expectations of fans around the world for BLACKPINK’s comeback.

Previously, in July of 2020, Blackpink showed off its strong presence by being the first non-English speaking artist to be listed in the “Top 5 YouTube Subscribers” list. Since then, they have overtaken famous pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmallow, and Justin Bieber one after another to become the number one artist in the world.

When we think of YouTube as a leading player in the changing global music market, it has a special meaning. This is because the number of subscribers is nothing more than a token of the steady interest and anticipation of the fans, rather than a simple curiosity about the content or a one-time viewing. Music video views and music streaming, which naturally exert influence through this, also affect various major global charts such as the US Billboard.

The cumulative number of views of BLACKPINK’s video content posted on YouTube so far has exceeded 26 billion. Including the music video for “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” the first K-pop group to reach 2 billion views, “Kill This Love” recorded 1.6 billion views while “BOOMBAYAH” recorded 1.4 billion views and “AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST” garnered 1.2 billion views. Furthermore, the “How You Like That” performance video has a total of 33 billion views, including 1.2 billion.

BLACKPINK started teasing in earnest ahead of the release of their 2nd regular album, “BORN PINK,” on the 16th. In addition, the Seoul concert will be held on October 15 and 16, opening the door to a large-scale world tour in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
