What if a rusty train that had stopped its operation between the two Koreas for over 70 years can move back in time through a wish that transcends generations?
The musical “Wonder Ticket” centers around such plot, with a young girl listening to her grandfather’s love story and reminiscing on his days before the division of the Korean Peninsula.
Apink‘s Bomi, N.flying’s Yoo Hwe Seung & Rock Musician Yoon Do Hyun are set to portray the lead roles in the fantasy Musical “Wonder Ticket”.
he musical “Wonder Ticket” is to take the stage near the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) between the two Koreas in hopes of spreading a message of peace.
The musical, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, will run from September 7 to 11 at Pyeonghwa Nuri Park located in Paju.
They will also perform at Inje-gun in Gangwon Province, from September 16 to 18.
The musical was inspired by an abandoned steam locomotive which sits at Jangdan Station that is an hour’s drive northwest of Seoul. The train once ran up and down the Korean Peninsula & stopped running following the division.
Yoo Hwe Seung & Yoon Do Hyun play the role of Pungbaek. Apink’s Bomi takes the role of grand daughter Haena, musical actor Nam Kyung Joo plays as Haena’s grandfather and actor Lee Jang Won plays Danya, the god of Iron.
The director of the musical, Choi Kwang Il speaking in an interview said, “The outdoor stage set up near the DMZ will hopefully fully immerse audience members into the story, and make them feel as if they are one of the passengers on a ‘wonder ticket’ journey.”
According to organizers, the musical incorporates the latest visual technologies, showcasing up-to-date hologram videos, kinetic art and 3D projection mappings. Augmented reality technology and visual effects laser performances are also combined to the existing elements of the musical.
